What driver will get rid of the "missing parallel driver" in m device manager?
Q. I did a full reboot on my Dell Inspiron 8600. I have re-installed all of the drivers except for the parallel device driver apparently. I don t know what to download off the dell site solve this. In the device manager its labeled under "other devices" than "parallel device"
Asked by Jason E - Thu Mar 19 17:37:07 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The Dell drivers page for your laptop doesn't really mention a parallel driver but windows might not be reporting it correctly. You could try FixMyDriver.com and let it complete a system scan. It might give you a more accurate description of what device is missing a driver.

What is the device driver for a Pocket PC?
Q. I got a Pocket PC for Christmas off eBay. Just the phone, a charger, and a USB cord. Now the phone isn't working, sending messages or showing any of my info, just coming up with a message that says "'Unidentified USB Device' Enter the name of the device driver for this device. For information, see the device manufacturer's documentation" I can't make sense of it. Any clue?

A. Yeah, I might have a clue if you told me the make/model of the device. Hope that helps.

Are Catalyst and Device Driver two different things?
Q. I have two 4870s in crossfire mode. I apparently updated my drivers to the most recent version. However when I look in ATI Catalyst Control Center, it says my catalyst version is 09.3 (latest), but my Driver Packaging Version is 8.591. This does not match up. Are they supposed to be different numbers? I thought when I update to 9.3 it will say 9.3 in device manager in windows, but it only says 8.591. Is this normal?

When I start up my computer the Device Driver Installation Wizard window appears?
Q. It says - Device Driver installation complete - How can I stop this window appearing
Asked by Dibnah - Sat May 26 11:11:25 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I had this problem after installing the wrong software on my HP Compaq NC6000. The software was listed by HP as suiting the laptop but was not. The software was for a Conextant modem & the Device Driver Installation Wizard belongs to this software. If you can find and delete a file called UIUCU.EXE that will be located in a temp directory the problem will go away. There is a registry entry for this as well, but just deleting the file will be enough.

A. I assume you know how to get into the device manger. I assume you know which item you are updating. just right click the item and click update driver. It well run you through a wizard where either you can pick the driver, or let windows search your computer for a better driver.

What is the purpose of a device driver?
Q. Have you ever had to install a device driver when connecting a new peripheral device to a computer? If you did, what was the device? Was the driver supplied by the operating system or by the device s manufacturer? Thanks for your help.

A. a driver "communicates" between the OS and the device. It's common to need to install drivers for hardware such as printers. Sometimes the OS can read the device enough to know what it basically is and provide a "generic" driver for it, but the device won't work as well or have all of its features available. (i.e. you have an HP printer with photo printing capabilities, Windows may be able to supply a driver for it to print off a basic document but not a photo.) For some devices, like mice and keyboards the OS's drivers are perfectly fine. Wifi cards on the other hand need a driver from the manufacturer. Windows has a very basic vga (display) driver included with it. If you've ever booted into Windows Safe Mode and seen what it looks… [cont.]

A. Boot into safe mode... As soon as you turn it on, start tapping the F8 key repeatedly... You will get a menu allowing you to boot into safe mode... Select that. If it allows you into safe mode, un-install the device you just updated the driver for, then reboot the machine.

A. All of the internal parts of your computer that allow you to do different things are considered "devices": (video card that puts picture on the screen, the sound card that allows your pc to make music, the wireless network interface that gets you to the internet, etc.) In order for Windows to talk to those devices, it needs pieces of software called "drivers." Most of those drivers aren't actually written by Microsoft. The drivers are usually written by the manufacturers of the individual devices. Sometimes there are mistakes in the way a driver is written. That can cause Windows to detect a serious problem with how it's trying to talk to a device. This causes the "blue screen of death." If this is something that just started happening… [cont.]
