In computing, a class driver is a type of hardware device driver that can operate a large number of different devices of a broadly similar type.

Class drivers are very often used with USB based devices, which share the essential USB protocol in common, and devices with similar functionality can easily adopt common protocols.

As another example, instead of having a separate driver for every kind of CD-ROM device, a class driver can operate a wide variety of CD-ROMs from different manufacturers. To accomplish this the manufacturers make their products compatible with a standardized protocol.

In technical terms, a class driver is used as a base or ancestor class for specific drivers which need to have slightly different or extended functionality, but which can take advantage of the majority of the functionality provided by the class driver. This concept is a key aspect of object oriented programming, which when extended to drivers makes it much easier for hardware vendors to provide driver support for their products.

Will attending a Driver Improvement class in Loudoun County, Va stop a ticket from showing on your license?
Q. Our son has received his first traffic ticket and we're wondering if attending a Driver Improvement class prior to going to court will help him and stop the ticket from being applied to his license.

A. It would depend on the VA DMV rules. In Florida, taking the class removed the points from the license and also prohibited the insurance companies from using the violation to raise rates. Check your DMV office or perhaps their website.

What class does your driver's license have to be to drive cars in the USA?
Q. In Europe it's class B. Is it the same in the USA? Thanks.

A. In the USA, it depends on the State where your license is issued... In all states, Class A and Class B are commercial licenses for driving buses and heavy trucks... In some states, a private driver's license is a Non-CDL Class C, and in others, it's a Class D. Doesn't really matter, as a valid license issued from any state is recognized as valid for driving in all states.
